Scholarships
Our organization started as a school sponsorship program–targeting girls who were rescued from or in danger of child marriage. Initially we partnered with AIC Moi Girls Samburu Secondary School, since most Samburu girls are safe through primary school but face forced marriage if they can’t afford secondary school. We not only saved many girls from marriage, but we also motivated the entire school by rewarding high KCSE performers by paying off school balances. As a result, graduating Form 4 students who scored well enough to qualify for college increased from 39% in 2021 to 99% in 2025 compared to 50% for Kenya as a whole. Those who qualified for university increased from 5% in 2021 to 69% in 2025 compared to 26% for Kenya as a whole.
Soon, we realized that primary school children also needed help–sometimes to rescue them from impending marriage, but more often to rescue them from abuse or the trauma of hunger. Some are orphans who have nowhere else to turn.
As we began empowerment clubs in local schools, we also got to know junior secondary boys and girls who were in desperate situations, so we expanded the program to provide support for particularly needy boys as well as girls. Now we have sponsored students in 3 senior secondary, 2 junior secondary, and 2 primary schools.
All of the students who receive scholarships from us are required to participate in our empowerment clubs. The tools they learn in the clubs not only help students achieve educational success for themselves, but help them become leaders who bring positive change to their communities as well.
